Over the years, many of our more experienced hurdy gurdy customers commissioned us to build customized instruments with advanced feature sets to meet their needs. We've taken the most commonly requested items and included them in the 'La Priel'. The 'La Priel' is built on the same, time tested body as our 'Moncur'. Indeed -'La Priel de Moncur'- the Pearl of My Heart
note: the spelling varies from the French because it's also Anwyn's middle name & family surname. (Yes, it's an obvious ploy but here we are)
This delightful instrument is designed to evoke the decorative ornamentation of traditional French instruments. With it's delicately inlaid keybox lid & wheelcover, to the ornate rose art on the soundboard, keybox lid & wheel cover, this instrument is a work of art.
This gurdy goes beyond the traditional 6 string arrangement with an extra added chanterelle (melody string). The sound of this instrument is incredibly dynamic, indredibly sweet, and very resonant.

QUESTION: What's the difference between the 'La Priel' and the 'Moncur' model'? Why the price difference?
ANSWER: The "La Priel" comes standard with a full set of drone capos, and two sets of sympathetic strings (these are optional items for the 'Moncur). Plus, the La Priel comes with additional inlay, soundboard art, and an extra/3rd chanterelle (melody string). It's basically a 'loaded' version, and since it's set up as a production model, we can offer a price break over adding up the features individually. This model / package (with the maple inlays) is only available with Rose art. |
