Hurdy Gurdy Music
Welcome to this new part of our website. Our intent is to provide tunes for newbie Hurdy gurdy players, and players who aren't comfortable reading & transposing music. All songs use a play by number format and have an accompanying video so you know how it should sound (no music reading skills are required). Click on title below to learn the song

About this music...
It's a little tricky to take a 'one size fits all' approach with hurdy gurdies, since you never know which tuning is being utilized by the player, or if the player has drone capos on their instrument.

Our answer to this is the 'play by number' approach.  The numbers above each musical note represent the button # that you would press on the hurdy gurdy.  If you can't read music, just use the play by number system and you'll be fine.  You can hear how the tune is supposed to sound by referencing the video at the bottom of each page.

If you can read music, you will notice that the numbers may not actually correspond to a the treble cleff notes. For example: you might see #3 above an 'e' note on the treble cleff. In the g/c tuning your #3 button will actually be a 'c' note, if you're in the d/g tuning it will be a 'g' note (and so on with the rest of the numbers).   I transposed these tunes into the numbering system so that they can be played on any hurdy gurdy regardless of how it's tuned, and without the need for drone capos.  You might actually be playing in a different key than I did on the video, or than the sheet music, but if you stick to the numbering system it will still sound like the song for your hurdy gurdy. Happy playing!
